The Amina - Spirit of Adventure Project, based at Mozambik Restaurant in Ballito was completed in 2010.

Now wonderfully restored and properly furnished, this famous Dhow is used for seating restaurant clients for lunch, dinner, cocktails, parties and events, so come along and enjoy the unique experience.
NB. There is a small cover charge for patrons wishing to sit on Amina.
This cover charge goes straight to Kingsley Holgate's charity where it is
used in the ongoing fight against Malaria.

History: This traditional northern Mozambican Swahili Sailing Dhow
was originally used on an historic yearlong humanitarian trade-wind journey led by Kingsley Holgate from Pemba to the Somali border and back to Ilha da Mocambique.

Amina - Spirit of Adventure and a convoy of Landrovers was used to distribute life-saving mosquito nets and offer malaria education to pregnant women & children under the age of five thereby successfully using the African Rainbow Expedition to improve and save lives.

The post-expedition objective in collaboration with Mozambik Restaurant was to rebuild the historic Amina Spirit of Adventure and incorporate her into Mozambik Restaurant and in turn retain a uniquely important maritime example of a typical Jahazi-class trading Dhow as used for centuries on the Mozambican coast and the seas of Zinj.

The exhibition also features images and text from the African Rainbow Expedition, so providing the restaurant with a unique one-of-a-kind in South Africa, East Coast attraction. Click here to reserve your table now.
